I was away most of last week and so our usual weekly round-up just didn’t happen. Instead I thought I would let you know how we did in June especially as the month marked our 8th year posting on problems with refugee resettlement here and around the world.
Readership is booming!
Although June wasn’t our biggest month ever (May was), one thing worth noting is that as of the end of June (6 months into the year) we had more readers so far in 2015 than in the whole of 2014.
Before I get to the Top Three Posts of the month, please note that we are making changes. I had hoped to have a whole new blog by now, but worry that the change, after years of readers seeing a certain look, would be too disruptive, so I’m going to try to simply (slightly) improve the look of RRW.
I’ve had complaints that the font size is way too small, so will upgrade the site necessary to get a larger type-size.
I think after I upgrade, wordpress will not place random ads on my pages which at present I don’t control. RRW continues to be a charitable enterprise by its writers.
Also, note that I took away some unnecessary side bar widgets (surely you won’t miss the tag clouds!) and added our twitter feed and facebook page. I still need to clean up our blog roll and our recommended reading list is years old. (LOL! I have not patience or aptitude for the nuts and bolts of blogging, just want to get the news out!)
Since I get way too many news stories than I can post, please consider following me on twitter because I’ll try to put more news there. And, maybe you’ve noticed already that on facebook we have stories that weren’t posted at RRW.
We have over 4,000 likes on facebook thanks to help from volunteer Kelly.
Top Three Posts for the month of June:
(by the way, Top Daily Posts are in the right hand side bar)
1. The number one resettlement state in America is Texas (primer part I)
2. Dead Somali ISIS fighter had ties to Lewiston, Maine
3. Idaho: Get ready for Somali refugees as county approves huge meatpacking plant near Boise
Top Ten Countries from which we received readers in June 2015:
UK
Germany (surprised to see Germany push Australia out of the top three)
Canada
Australia
France
Austria
European Union (this is a relatively new listing and I don’t know why the EU is listed when individual European countries are as well)
South Africa
New Zealand
India
For the instruction to new readers that I normally post at the end of a round-up, click here and read our last regular weekly round-up.
The most important thing I tell new readers is to use our ‘search’ function (top left hand side bar) and put in a few key words (ie. your city or state) to help you find information among our 6,000+ posts!
