Fewer refugees will be going to Utah

I guess at least one state is beginning to see that they can’t manage large numbers of refugees in this economic downturn.  From the Salt Lake Tribune:

Several dozen refugee families who were scheduled to arrive in Utah later this year will likely be resettled elsewhere [where?],as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops struggles to help families amid a dire economy.

“It’s a year of extreme difficulties,” said Anastasia Brown, the conference’s director of refugee programs, based in Washington, D.C. “In local offices, they have been doing incredible duty trying to make sure that no refugees go homeless.”

The organization’s decision to limit the number of refugees it helps reflects the state of the nation’s troubled refugee programs.

Refugees have been arriving at a faster pace than expected this year. Worried about the potential strain on the local level, the Catholic organization has alerted State Department officials it will not significantly exceed its original agreement to resettle about 20,000 refugees.

No comment from the State Department.

A five million dollar bailout that will take money from deserving refugees abroad will soon be divvied up among the Top Ten (volag) Government Contractors.   I would love to be a fly on the wall to see how that cat fight turns out.

Acknowledging the current challenges, the federal government plans to redirect $5 million toward refugee housing nationwide, an unprecedented move. The funds were previously allocated for refugees overseas.

The Salt Lake Tribune is one of the better papers in the US at looking more carefully at refugee programs, so it was disappointing to see the reporter fall hook, line and sinker for the IRC  (we need more money) Report of last week.  

And finally, this was interesting.   So, Salt Lake City has a Somali Community Center too!   Another federal grant?  A little ethnic and religious community organizing?

On Monday morning, eight Somali families crowded a tiny office at the new Somali Community Self Management program in Salt Lake City.

It has been my contention all along that these ethnic community-based organizations only continue to divide Americans—but that is the goal we have learned from the bible of community (destabilization!) organization—Alinsky’s ‘Rules for Radicals.’

No surprise, welfare use is up

The Wall Street Journal reported this not surprising story  yesterday.  I’m linking it here because it includes a good summary of many of the welfare programs refugees are eligible for, and I wanted to have it handy if I needed it.   I see our home state of Maryland is a hot state for welfare usage.

The Cloward-Piven strategy and why we need the poor and angry immigrants.

Cloward would be so proud if he were alive and surely Piven is proud to see their theory so close to fruition.  They esposed overloading the welfare system with the poor as a means of tearing down our government.   Robert Chandler writing in the Washington Times last fall.

Developed in the mid-1960s by two Columbia University sociologists, Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, much of their strategy was drawn from Saul Alinsky, Chicago’s notorious revolutionary Marxist community organizer. The   Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN)* succeeded the National Welfare Rights Organization in the execution of the Cloward-Piven grand tactics of using the poor as cannon fodder to tear down the capitalist system. It was low-income, mostly black and Hispanic people, who were used by ACORN guerrillas to take subprime toxic mortgages.

* Of course we have just learned that ACORN has changed its name, here.

ACORN changes its name

Why do we care?    For two reasons.  First, the ACORN leadership is linked to the refugee issue as I reported here  and here recently; and the SEIU, a direct offshoot of ACORN, is organizing refugees and immigrants.  They need refugees and immigrants as dues-paying members and to supply the poor and angry  (voters too!) to destabilize America.  As a matter of fact, I believe that ACORN/SEIU bigwig, Wade Rathke is behind the strategy to organize Somalis (to be disruptive) at various workplaces in the US.

The other reason is that the issue of organizational name change is a strategy to dump a bad image, not just for PR reasons, but for reasons of  dipping into the federal treasury less conspicuously.   I told you that the Somali Community Center of Nashville, which had gotten entangled in alleged grant fraud, changed its name here.

And, if anyone can tell me why the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) has changed its name a couple of times, here, I would really appreciate it.

This is from the Washington Examiner on ACORN yesterday.  Note that ACORN is attempting to silence critics with lawsuits.

Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) leaders are using the threat of a law suit to silence and intimidate critics, according to current and former members of the liberal activist group.

In a letter dated June 11 an attorney for ACORN advised top whistleblowers that their unauthorized use of the organization’s name could make them liable for monetary damages and injunctive relief.

ACORN executives have also changed their organization’s name, which was tarnished by investigations in at least 14 states of allegations of voter registration fraud during the 2008 presidential campaign, and charges by current and former members of financial mismanagement and misrepresentation.

In fact, the process has already begun, she noted. Wade Rathke, who founded the organization, announced on his blog that ACORN International has officially changed its name to “Community Organizations International.”

When you visit Rathke’s blog you will see how important immigrants are to their strategy to “change” America.

Ah, the joys of Shariah law in Somalia

I’ve been trying to stay away from the mess in Somalia unless it is directly related to our Somali refugees, but this story caught my eye.   It’s a Reuters story entitled, ‘Somali Islamists order teenagers’ hands, legs amputated’  and demonstrates what Shariah law is all about.  I wonder if our Minnesota-raised Somali teens who went off to fight with al-Shabaab fully understood what Shariah law means.  One of those Minnesota teens we are are told was already executed, here.

MOGADISHU, June 22 (Reuters) – Somali’s al Shabaab insurgents sentenced four teenagers on Monday to each have a hand and a leg amputated as punishment for robbery in a show of power by the hardline Islamists in a Mogadishu stronghold.

It would be the first such double amputation carried out by the rebels, who follow strict sharia law in the parts of south Somalia that they control.

Al Shabaab — whose ranks are swelled by foreign jihadists and is seen by Western security services as a proxy for al Qaeda in Somalia — has carried out executions, floggings and single-limb amputations before, mainly in south Kismayu port.

It is battling the government of President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed for control of Mogadishu, and is also fighting a government-allied moderate Islamist militia in the provinces.

“Today, the Islamic court sentences these four men who carried out robberies to have their opposite hand and leg amputated,” said Sheikh Abdul Haq, judge of the sharia court in the al Shabaab-held Suqa Holaha area of the Somali capital.

“They robbed mobile phones and people’s belongings.”

Just a reminder, al-Shabaab says they want a worldwide caliphate where everyone lives under Shariah law.   What are they going to do for a welfare system if they have a worldwide caliphate and they can’t send their double amputees off as refugees to live in Sweden, Great Britain, Canada or the US?

For new readers:  The US State Department has admitted over 80,000 Somali refugees to the US in the last 25 years and then last year had to suspend family reunification because widespread immigration fraud was revealed through DNA testing.

Romanians attacked in Northern Ireland, a rise in ethnic nationalism?

Attacks on about 100 families of Romanians in Belfast, No. Ireland appears to be motivated by anger at foreigners and frustration at a declining economic climate in a country that was booming in recent years.   But, I have to say, after scanning several articles I still don’t have a good handle on what is going on.  I wanted to know how the Romanians came to be in Ireland in the first place. 

Finally this article in the Irish Times last Thursday gave me a few useful bits of information.

The Roma people have been a feature of Belfast city life in the past two years. Many of them sell the Belfast Telegraph on the streets. Other are involved in car washing, some sell the Big Issues , others simply beg.

The attacks began last Wednesday, apparently spontaneously without any motivation apart from racism, and continued in the following days.

The overwhelming majority of the families did not speak English, so Maria Fechete, who has made an effort to learn the language in recent months, was delegated to speak on their behalf.

The families “want to go home” to Romania, she said. “I haven’t slept in a week,” she added.

He [a friend of the Romanians] said the family told him they came to Northern Ireland out of desperation because there was no work in Romania. He wondered whether they were having second thoughts about their decision.

If anger against foreigners (fellow Europeans no less) is building in Ireland I wonder how they are taking the African, Middle Eastern and Rohingya refugees settling there.
